How my journey began

I grew up with music in my soul. I put myself in any and all situations that would involve music or theater. I performed in multiple shows a year, sang in a number of choirs, wrote and recorded many songs, and just played piano and sang any chance I got! After college I decided to work in a school setting and realized it just wasn’t what I was looking for. In 2013 I started what I now call V. Altman Music and I’ve loved every minute of it! I am so grateful to have touched so many families lives with music and I look forward to many more years to come!
I hold my Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Concordia College (now Iona) in Bronxville, NY as well as my Master’s Degree from Mercy College in Middle, Elementary and Special Education. As of 2022, I am recognized as a Steinway Teacher & Educational Partner. Lastly, in the near future, I will be working on my Entrepreneurship/Business Coaching Certification and have plans for expansion.
What People Are Saying
“
Valerie is a wonderful piano teacher! My kids (ages 5, 7 and almost 9 years old) look forward to their music lessons each week. Valerie's lessons are fun & tailored to each child's individual needs while also challenging them to help bring their skills to the next level. In addition, Valerie successfully prepared my daughter Katherine for the NYSSMA piano festival, where she received an outstanding rating for her performance.

My 8-year-old daughter has been taking piano and voice lessons from Valerie this past year and loves it! Valerie is a natural with children as she is kind, patient, and enthusiastic. She is incredibly encouraging and helpful when my daughter gets confused or stuck on something. She has a true passion for music and shares her love of music with her students. I cannot say enough good things about Valerie -- she is an excellent teacher and I highly recommend her!

“
Valerie has been teaching our 9 year old daughter piano for one year, first virtually and now in person. After a couple false starts with other teachers over the past couple years, thanks to Valerie our daughter is now fully engaged and looks forward to her lessons each week. She makes it fun, interesting and very relatable. We love watching her appreciation of music and confidence grow!
